Nghiên cứu này đặt mục làm rõ cách chuyển ngữ các ý nghĩa thời-thể của thì Passé composé (PC) trong tiếng Pháp sang tiếng Việt và được thực hiện trên ngữ liệu gốc là một tác phẩm văn học thuộc thể loại truyện ngắn cùng bản dịch tiếng Việt. Nghiên cứu hướng đến làm rõ: 1) mục đích của việc sử dụng thì PC trong truyện ngắn, bằng cách khảo sát các giá trị ngữ dụng của thì PC dựa trên các đặc điểm diễn ngôn của tác phẩm truyện ngắn; 2) các phương tiện dùng để chuyển ngữ các ý nghĩa thời-thể của PC qua tiếng Việt, bằng cách nghiên cứu hai trường hợp trong bản dịch tiếng Việt: sự tình được đánh dấu và không đánh dấu bằng phó từ thời-thể. Kết quả nghiên cứu chỉ ra rằng mỗi loại PC được sử dụng với mục đích ngữ dụng đặc trưng của một văn bản tự sự. Nghiên cứu cũng đi sâu phân tích quá trình chuyển ngữ cũng như các vấn đề trong chuyển ngữ các ý nghĩa thời-thể của PC qua tiếng Việt.
