A STUDY OF HO CHI MINH CITY UNIVERSITY OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS’ CHINESE SPEAKING SKILL LEARNING STRATEGIES

Abstract
This article examined Vietnamese students’ Chinese speaking skills learning strategies, with the case of Chinese Language majors of Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology. The results of the survey of 233 students showed that the frequency of use of Vietnamese students’ speaking skill learning strategies is at a high level, not only in general, but also in terms of metacognitive strategies, cognitive strategies, and socio-affective strategies. In terms of gender, there is no difference between male and female students in using strategies to learn Chinese speaking skill. In terms of regions, there is no difference between students in the Central region and students in the South region in using strategies to learn Chinese speaking skill. There is a positive correlation between the achievement of Chinese speaking skill and the frequency of using learning strategies.
