SOCIO-POLITICAL VOCABULARY IN CHINESE MODERN LITERATURE (ON THE BASIS OF HU SHI’S WORKS IN THE NEW CULTURE MOVEMENT)
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the modern Chinese era, numerous texts and literary works expressed new ideas as well as new classes of words, among which are socio-political words and terminologies often used in political and social sciences whose content represents things, phenomena, concepts, and knowledge in the field of politics, social sciences, and humanities. To clarify the socio-political words in the New Culture movement, the article examines the socio-political words in two texts of Hu Shi named Guī guó zágǎn (lit. Feelings upon return to hometown - 4.328 words) and Wénxué gǎiliáng chúyì (lit. On Literary Reform - 6.237 words). The research of socio-political words in modern Chinese literature contributes to clarifying the linguistic features of this period in China such as the appearance of a large number of new words, new concepts, and lexical semantic expansion. Moreover, the survey of socio-political words in modern China is valuable in the study and teaching of languages in general and Chinese in particular.
