Nghiên cứu này tìm hiểu sự thay đổi theo thời gian về mức độ gắn kết cảm xúc của sinh viên đại học chuyên ngành tiếng Anh trong các buổi học kỹ năng đọc hiểu theo hướng nhiệm vụ. Nghiên cứu áp dụng phương pháp hỗn hợp theo chiều dọc, với dữ liệu được thu thập từ 66 sinh viên của Việt Nam qua năm bài học đọc theo hướng nhiệm vụ trong nửa học kỳ. Dữ liệu định lượng được thu thập thông qua bảng hỏi lặp lại sau mỗi nhiệm vụ đọc và dữ liệu định tính được thu thập qua các cuộc phỏng vấn tiếp nối với mười sinh viên được chọn. Kết quả định lượng cho thấy sự gắn kết cảm xúc thay đổi đáng kể giữa các nhiệm vụ, tăng sau nhiệm vụ đầu tiên, đạt mức cao nhất ở giai đoạn giữa chuỗi nhiệm vụ và giảm nhẹ ở nhiệm vụ cuối. Kết quả định tính cho thấy sự gắn kết cảm xúc của sinh viên được thể hiện qua các dạng cảm xúc thay đổi như: hứng thú, nhiệt tình, tò mò và mức độ chán nản thấp, những yếu tố này gắn với thiết kế của nhiệm vụ, mức độ liên quan của chủ đề, sự tương tác và tính mới mẻ của bài học. Kết quả khảo sát cho thấy sự gắn kết cảm xúc trong các giờ học đọc theo hướng nhiệm vụ không ổn định mà mang tính động và thay đổi theo nhiệm vụ. Nghiên cứu nhấn mạnh tầm quan trọng của việc sắp xếp trình tự và thiết kế các nhiệm vụ đọc nhằm duy trì sự gắn kết cảm xúc tích cực xuyên suốt chuỗi nhiệm vụ trong lớp học ngoại ngữ.
