CORPUS LINGUISTICS IN RESEARCH AND TEACHING JAPANESE IN VIETNAM

Abstract
In the context of rapid advancements in science and technology, particularly in computer science, research methods in linguistics have undergone significant innovations. One of the most influential and modern approaches is Corpus Linguistics, which enables the analysis of language based on authentic, objective, and verifiable data. In Vietnam, the application of corpora in foreign language research and teaching, especially in Japanese language education, remains limited. Meanwhile, international studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of corpus-based approaches in various areas such as lexicography, foreign language teaching, translation studies, and discourse analysis. Utilizing corpus data allows learners and researchers to gain a more precise understanding of the grammatical, semantic, and pragmatic features of a language, thereby introducing an empirical and data-driven perspective into applied linguistic research. Based on this practical context, this paper aims to clarify the significance and role of linguistic corpora in Japanese language research and teaching in Vietnam, while surveying and introducing several existing Japanese corpora. Furthermore, the study proposes potential applications of these corpora to support teachers, researchers, and learners in enhancing the effectiveness of Japanese language teaching, learning, and research through real linguistic data.
