DIASPORIC LITERATURE BY CHINESE AMERICAN WRITERS: IDENTITY, AESTHETIC FEATURES, AND EMERGING TRENDS

Abstract

This study explores representative works of Chinese diasporic writers in the United States - particularly those of the new migration wave since the late 20th century - such as Ha Jin, Geling Yan, Lisa See, and Qiu Xiaolong. Drawing on contemporary critical frameworks including cultural criticism, identity theory, and migration literature studies, the research examines how these authors portray experiences of displacement, identity crises, and the reconstitution of selfhood in a multicultural American context. Through interdisciplinary textual and comparative analysis, the paper demonstrates that Chinese American literature not only reflects the tensions between Eastern and Western cultural values but also illustrates a shift from marginal migrant consciousness to a fluid aesthetics of hybrid identity. These literary works transcend nostalgia or exile to engage with universal human concerns, contributing to a transnational literary discourse that crosses national and cultural boundaries. Furthermore, the study highlights the emerging significance of Chinese language online literature in the U.S. as a new platform for diasporic expression, expanding the narrative space and communicative reach of migrant literature. By identifying aesthetic tendencies, ideological values, and future trajectories, this paper situates Chinese diasporic literature as a vital component of contemporary global literary production.
