Abstract

One of the criteria for assessing English language skills is the ability to use synonyms in spoken and written communication. This study explores synonymy or term variations in English business terminology, analyzing a corpus of 286 synonyms collected from business dictionaries, textbooks, and reference materials. The research findings reveal that business concepts with two synonymous terms predominate. The study identifies seven categories of term variations: morpho-syntactic, short-form, diatopic, diaphasic, dimensional, complementary-synonym, and head-term variants. Additionally, it analyzes semantic features of selected synonymous chains in business contexts, offering insights into their linguistic properties.
