Because of special history, geographic and cultural reasons, Hong Kong and Taiwan have become regions where Chinese and multilingualism are associated with rapid economic and financial development. For more than a century to date, translation research, application and translation training in these two regions have had specific characteristics. From the perspectives of chronological, synchronous and regional studies, the article briefly describes the situation of translation development, analyzes theoretical issues, introduces a number of exemplary translators and researchers in order to better clarify the characteristics of translation, the situation of research, training and the development of translation theory in Hong Kong and Taiwan. It is hoped to contribute more documents in translation research and provide suggestions for research, development of translation theory and professional interpreter training in Vietnam.
